ACADEMIC
PROGRAMME
1.
Introduction
i. Ravenshaw College of
yesteryears, one of the premier educational institutions in the country, was established
in 1868 in the town of Cuttack in Orissa. After hundred forty years of eventful
existence, it was converted into Ravenshaw University by an Act of the State
Legislature on November 15, 2006. Thus, as one of the heritage educational
institutions, and as a young university, Ravenshaw University today is a
veritable blend of the old and the new.
ii. The old Ravenshaw Campus
with its majestic structures was set up in the year 1919 over about a hundred
acres of land on the eastern side of Cuttack. After becoming a university,
Ravenshaw has acquired about another hundred forty acres of land on the bank of
river Mahanadi to build its second campus for the new disciplines of management
and applied sciences.
iii. The old Ravenshaw campus
is located at a walking distance from Cuttack Railway Station, and requires
about 45 minutes of driving time to reach from Bhubaneswar Airport.
iv. As a young university, the old
Ravenshaw is now in the throes of preservation and change. Its infrastructure,
both academic and physical, is being strengthened and expanded to meet the
needs to make it more contemporary, and raise the level of research and
teaching with an aim to develop it as a centre of excellence.

3. PGDCMMC COURSE
i)
Scope of the Course:
The eastern region of India particularly the state of Odisha is rich in various
mineral resources like coal, iron and manganese ores, bauxite, chromite,
ilmenite etc. Most of the major industries in this region are mineral based,
such as thermal power plants, integrated iron and steel plants, Alumina
production and Aluminium smelters, Ferroalloy and sponge iron plants. These
industries require a large number of scientific and engineering personnel with
good knowledge in “Mineral and Metal Chemistry” to produce quality goods. In
view of this, the Institute of Advance Technology & Environmental studies
(IATES), Bhubaneswar, proposes to offer a Post Graduate Diploma Course in
Mineral and Metal Chemistry (PGDMMC) of One year duration under Ravenshaw
University, Cuttack.
The course is designed to
produce industry oriented trained technical personnel who can have better job
prospects in mineral and metallurgical based industries in addition to
improving their academic standard in resource management.
