Admission into Ph. D./D. Sc./D.Litt. Program

 

Notification No. 1617  Dt. 11 April 2011

 

 

Applications are invited from interested candidates who have secured 55 % of marks at PG level or its equivalent in grading system (50 % in case of SC/ST candidates) for admission into Ph. D programme 2011-12  through an entrance test, followed by an interview, in a prescribed form, downloadable from the University’s website www.ravenshawuniversity.ac.in. The last date of submission is 27 April 2011.

 

Entrance test and interview for Ph.D program shall be conducted in respective Department/Schools. Number of seats available in each department is given in parentheses in the table below.

I.       Relaxation/Exemption:

1.  Candidates who have qualified UGC-CSIR NET/GATE/ SLET/DBT/ICMR/ICAR/ INSPIRE fellowships and teacher fellowship holders are exempted from entrance test.

2.  Candidates having an M.Phil. Degree with 55 % or its equivalent in CGPA are also exempted from entrance test.

3.  The State Govt Reservation Policy for allotment of seats shall be applicable in Ph. D Admission program.

 

II.      Entrance Test and Interview

 

1.  Entrance test and interview will be conducted in respective departments. Candidates are required to report one hour before commencement of the examination.

 

2.  Entrance test will be based on a written test of three hours’ duration. The successful candidates in the entrance test will be called for an interview. The successful candidates are required to submit a write up of their area of interest at least five days before the date of interview. Similarly, the exempted candidates are also required to submit their synopsis in their respective departments five days before the date of interview.

 

3.  Questions for entrance tests shall consist of two parts, each part carrying 50 marks each of one hour duration. The 1st part of the question shall be purely multiple choice and objective type covering question from General English, General Knowledge, Quantitative Aptitude and Interpretation of data etc. The 2nd part of questions shall be from the subject concerned.

 

4.  In the interview, the candidates are expected to discuss about their write up and area of research. The final selection will be held on the basis of combined performance in the written entrance test and interview on 70-30% weightage basis. However, candidates who are exempted from written entrance test, shall be selected on the basis of performance in the interview.

 

III.     Procedure for allotment of supervisor

 

Aspiring candidates may opt for supervisors right at the time of submission of application. However, the supervisor has to give an undertaking about his willingness/acceptance to supervise the student as well as an undertaking following UGC mandate that not more than seven students are supervised for their doctoral research at any given point in time. Candidates, who have not opted for supervisors, will be assigned supervisors from among the Faculty. IV.     Course Work

 

As per UGC norms, all research scholars of Ph. D program have to undertake course work of one semester. Course work will consist of three papers including one on Research methodology. Enrolled candidates have to successfully complete course work to undertake research.


V.      Final Approval of Synopsis

 

Candidates who successfully complete their course work, need to submit a final version of the synopsis under the guidance of their respective supervisors within one and a half year of the admission. Synopsis will be examined by respective SRC and approved.

 

VI.     Procedure for the Award of Degree

1.   Prior to the submission of the thesis, students shall make a pre-Ph. D presentation in the department that is open to all faculty members and research students.

2.     Ph. D candidates shall publish one research paper in a journal having ISSN or ISBN number and produce evidence for the same in the form of acceptance letter or the reprint.

3.     Thesis will be examined by two experts, preferably from outside the state.

4.     Upon receipt of satisfactory evaluation reports, PhD. Students shall undergo a viva voce examination which shall be openly defended.

5.     Thesis can be submitted after the completion of two years from the date of registration. Submission before the completion of two years (not earlier than 1.5 years) can be granted by Vice Chancellor on the recommendation of the respective SRC supported by the documentary evidence of extraordinary achievements of the candidate in his/her research work.

6.     Maximum time limit for submission of thesis cannot be more than eight years from the date of enrolment/admission.

 

VII.    How to Apply

Applications shall be made in the specified ‘Application Format’ given below at point XI. Please click on it to go to the format. After the application is completed in all respect, it should be sent to the email id: cc@ravenshawuniversity.ac.in from their own email account.

Last date of application is 27 April 2011.

All candidates are requested to open an email account of their own, if they do not have one, for necessary correspondence in future. This will be in addition to their normal mailing / postal address.

Applicants are required to pay is Rs. 1500/- (Rupees one thousand five hundred) only in the form of Bank Draft towards application fee in favour of Ravenshaw University Cuttack, payable at Cuttack. Applicants are required to pay Application Fee before submitting application online and to quote the particulars of payment therein.

Applicants are required to send the following documents alongwith the downloaded copy of the filled in application form sent through email by Registered post / Speed post to the Controller of Curricula, Examination Section, Ravenshaw University, Cuttack, 753003 so as to reach the University office on or before April 30, 2011.

1.  Bank Draft for Rs. 1500/- (Rupees one thousand five hundred) only.

2.  Xerox copy of mark sheet and provisional certificate of last qualifying examination.

3.  Photocopy of certificate(s) in support of claiming reservation and/or weightage, if any.

All documents will be signed by the candidate himself / herself as proof of self attestation. Submission of incorrect information with intention to defraud may lead to cancellation of admission, and make the candidate liable for criminal proceedings.

On receipt of Application fees, the University shall issue an Admit Card through email from May 3rd onwards for Entrance Examination which is to be downloaded by the candidate. No other intimation shall be issued for reporting at the examination centre.

Admit Card shall have two parts: one for the Candidate (Candidate’s Copy), and the other for the Office (Office Copy). Applicants shall affix two recent passport size photographs on spaces indicated, and provide necessary information in both parts of the Admit Card. They are required to bring both the copies (Candidate’s Copy as well as Office Copy) to the Examination Centre on the date of examination.

Candidates in possession of Admit Cards are requested to report at least one hour before the commencement of examination.

         Separate applications are required to be made for admission into each subject

IX.     Fee Structure

         1.      Application Fee: Rs. 1500/- (Rupees one thousand five hundred) only inclusive of Form Processing and Entrance Examination.

2.      Course Fee: Rs 5,000/- (Rupees Five thousand) only for School of Social Sciences and School of Languages.

         Course Fee: Rs 10,000/- (Rupees ten thousand) only for School of Life Sciences, School of Regional Studies and Earth Sciences, School of Mathematics and Computer Sciences, School of Physical Sciences and School of Commerce & Management.

 

X.      All other rules and procedure will follow Ph.D regulations of the University.
