Measures
adopted by
Ravenshaw
University has accepted the guidelines issued by the Hon’ble Supreme Court
dated 8.5.2009 to the State Governments and the advisory of Her Excellency, the
President of India addressed to His Excellency the Governor of Orissa vide letter
no. 06/RB/2009 dated 25.6.2009 in connection with the prevention of the
perverse practice of ragging in educational institutions.
1. Ragging means the doing of any act which causes or is likely to cause any physical,
psychological harm or apprehension or shame or embarrassment to a student and
includes-
a)
Teasing/abusing/playing
practical joke or causing hurt to any student or
b)
Asking any student to
do any act or perform anything which he/she would not, in the ordinary course,
be willing to do or perform.
2. Prevention
of ragging:
a)
Ragging within an
educational institution (
b)
No person shall
participate in abet or propagate ragging any where within the campus and
hostel.
3. Penalty
for ragging:
(i)
Expulsion from
educational institution if found guilty on inquiry by the institution on a
complaint lodged by any other student.
(ii)
Imprisonment for two
years or fine up to five thousand rupees or both.
(iii) Any
student convicted under 3(ii) shall be rusticated from the educational
institution in which he/she has been continuing his/her studies for the time
being and shall not be readmitted to that educational institution at any cost.
The
university has further accepted in principle that each and every student of the
university shall be duty bound during the entire period of studentship with
this university to immediately report to DSW / Registrar / Warden / Convenor, Anti-Ragging
Squad / Deans / HODs / Hostel Superintendents if any ragging is detected either
in university campus or in university hostels.
4. A declaration against ragging is made obligatory
for every student of this University
a)
Declaration and undertaking by the candidate :
I do hereby declare that I am fully aware of the measures adopted by
Ravenshaw University towards ragging and the statutory punishment to which a
student shall be liable if found guilty of ragging and hereby undertake that I
shall neither indulge in ragging activities nor shall take part in or subject
any one to ragging.
