Dr. Bijoy Kumar Misra was born on April 1, 1952 in Puri, the abode of Lord Jagannath. He had his schooling in the Brajanath Badajena High School, Dhenkanal and the Secondary Board High School, Cuttack. He had his graduation from the Ravenshaw College in the year 1971. He had his Post-Graduation from Department of Geography of Utkal University in the First Class and was ranked Second. He did his Ph.D. from Calcutta University on the topic of 'Backward Area Development Planning'.
He is serving in this Institution for more than 25 years. He is now guiding 10 students for Ph.D. level research, and two of them have already been awarded Ph.D. from Utkal University. He has published 20 research papers and authored/edited 6 books. He has the rare distinction of becoming the member of panel of supervisors for a candidate in the Australian Defence Academy, New South Wales, Australia.
His interest lies in acquainting the students with remote areas of Orissa and India for studying physical landscape, social behaviour of the people and economic condition of the area. As the NSS officer for 10 years, he took social service to the door-steps of the down-trodden in society. He had a number of administrative assignments to his credit, which includes heading the department, working as Superintendent of hostels, various committees of UGC and organising seminars and symposiums. He loves gardening and his hobby is cartography.
