Responsibilities

The committee will be responsible for management of Endowment funds and ensure that the purpose of the fund is suitably achieved. They will also mobilise resources in this for covering more number of students in various disciplines.

Endowment Personalities

ARTA BALLABH MOHANTI ENDOWMENT (Instituted in April-2013)

Two scholarships were instituted in the memory of Rai Bahadur Padmashree Prof Artaballabh Mohanti by his son Prof H B Mohanti, Ex-Adviser,Cabinet Sectt, Govt of India.The interest incurred on the donated money is to be used to distribute two scholarships. One Scholarship is to be given to the meritorious bright student graduated pursuing MA in Odia and the other for the meritorious bright student graduated pursuing MA in Sanskrit in this University.The scholarships are named as ARTA BALLABH MOHANTI Scholarship.

AMARENDRA PRASAD PALIT ENDOWMENT (Instituted in Jan-2014)

Dr. Amarendra Prasad Palit hailed from Cuttack, Odisha. He was born on 8th August 1909. He graduated from the erstwhile Ravenshaw College (Now Ravenshaw University) during 1930. He worked in the Industry Department under Govt of Orissa ( Odisha). He was instrumental in developing leather industry in Odisha, particularly in the tribal regions of the state, thereby creating employment opportunities for them. Dr Palit also took initiative to establish tannery unit in Jobra, Cuttack enriching the livelihood of local coblers, He took training in leather technology in Germany. He retired in 1967 as Deputy Director of Industries, Government of Odisha. He expired on 28.11.1970.The family members of Dr A.P Palit donated the money for creation of the endowment in the loving memory of this great soul. The interest money will be utilised to distribute Amarendra Prasad Palit Memorial Prize to a student for best popular writing in science.

BORASAMBAR SENAPATI ENDOWMENT

This Endowment draws it nomenclature conjointly from Borasambar estate in Sambalpur (now in Bargarh district) and Mr Nilamani Senapati, one of the few Oriya officers of the Indian Civil Service (ICS) who was the Deputy Commissioner of Sambalpur District in pre-independence days.The people of Borasambar represented by Raja of Borasambar estate, Sri Rajendra Singh Bariah (1899-1935) gave a farewell gift of six hundred rupees to  Mr Nilamani Senapati. The magnanimous Deputy Commissioner donated this amount to Ravenshaw college to create an endowment for awarding a prize to the best debater in English effective since 1937. Hence, the University conducts the Borasambar Senapati debate competition every year and three Gold Medals namely, Chancellor Gold Medal, Vice Chancellor Gold Medal and Registrar Gold Medal are given away for 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.

BRAJA KUMAR KAR ENDOWMENT (Instituted in Jan-2012)

Late Braja Kumar Kar served for more than two decades in Ravenshaw College (Now University) that included his tenure as the Head of the Department in Botany. He was acclaimed as an outstanding teacher and expert on plant Cytogenetics. He was respected by his collegues and students alike. Unfortunately he died an untimely death suffering from blood cancer  on 23rd August, 1986. Two scholarships were instituted by the University under the sponsorship of Mrs Basanti Kar, wife of Late Braja Kumar Kar, Ex-HOD, Botany. The annual interest accrued on the endowment money is to be paid to the 1st class first in B.Sc, Botany (Hons) and 1st class first in M.Sc , Botany in the ratio of 60:40

BRAJABANDHU MOHAPATRA ENDOWMENT (Instituted on 14.3.2015)

Donated by Dr Mounabati Mohapatra, Prof Dental Surgery, AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, this Endowment is named as Brajabandhu Mohapatra Fellowship. The annual interest accrued on the donated money is to be given in the form of fellowship to one poor student of Under Graduate with Botany Honours.

DR BASUDEV KAR ENDOWMENT (Instituted on 16.8.21)

Prof Basudev Kar (7.8.1938 to 20.12.2015) was a front ranking medical student, teacher and administrator. He was Principal of SCB Medical College & Hospital and also President of Odisha Bigyan Academy and worked towards popularization of Science in the state of Odisha. He was awarded with  the prestigious ‘senior Scientist of Odisha’ award by the Odisha Bigyan Academy in 2013. The Endowment is named as Dr Basudev Kar Oration and donated by Dr Hemalata Swain The interest money accrued on the donation money is to be utilized to organize Oration in any area of humanities every alternate year including a cash prize. Further a cash prize and certificate will be distributed to the topper of a full time course duly offered by the Centre of Translation and Digital Humanities every year.

BEDABYAS TRIPATHY ENDOWMENT (Instituted on 5.5.14)

This endowment was instituted under the sponsorship of Prof Baishnab Charan Tripathy, the ex-Vice Chancellor of this University, in the loving memory of his only son Sri Bedabyas Tripathy. The interest money of the donated amount is to be utilized to provide merit-cum-means scholarships to two blind students every year.

 DR BAIDYANATH MISHRA ENDOWMENT (Economics)

A man of many accolades, Prof Baidyanath Mishra (1920-2019) belonged to the district of Khurda. He graduated in Economics from Ravenshaw University and did his masters in the University of Allahabad and was the topper in both the Universities. He completed another master’s degree in economics from Wharton school of the University of Pensylvania on a Fullbright scholarship, where he studied under the Nobel laureate Simon Kuznets. He did his PhD from Utkal University. Equally eventful is his professional life. He taught in Ravenshaw college. He became VC of OUAT and established  a number of  colleges at the time. He worked in many prestigious institutions in different capacities. He also authored many books in English and Odia. He was the recipient of Think Odisha Leadership Award in 2010 and Odisha Sahitya Academy Award in 1996. The endowment was created by the money donated by him.The interest accrued is to be utilized to conduct memorial lecture every year.

BRUNDABAN CHANDRA ACHARYA  ENDOWMENT (Instituted on 21.11.22   )

Sri Brundaban Chandra Acharya was the founder and Head of the department of Geography at the then Ravenshaw College from 1947 to 1979 and was an eminent academician and author of several books in Geography. He was the founder member and president of Bigyan Prachar Samiti. This  Endowment was sponsored by Dr Sanjay Acharya, former Professor and Head, AIHCA, Utkal University in the memory of his father Sri Brundaban Chandra Acharya. Brundaban Chandra Acharya Graduate Gold Medal and Brundaban Chandra Acharya Post-Graduate  Gold Medal are to be awarded to the first-class-firsts in Graduation and Post- Graduation respectively every year in Geography out of the interest money of the endowment.

DR DIPALI SINHAROY ENDOWMENT (Education)

Dr Dipali Sinharoy  headed the Education Department during the period from 1998-99. She was also a student of erstwhile Ravenshaw college. She was a popular teacher and found helping the poor and the needy. This benevolent lady succumbed to wrong treatment in a local hospital in Kolkata on 21st March 2010. Her brother Mr Rama Krishna Sinharoy donated money in her loving memory to create an Endowment in her name. The interest money of this endowment is to be utilized for giving one time annual financial assistance to the topper of the University in Degree Examination in Education Deptt. It was also  decided to arrange annual memorial lecture in her name.

JUSTICE DIPAK MISRA ENDOWMENT (Instituted in Aug-2022)

Justice Dipak Misra was the former Chief Justice of India. Justice Misra was the alumnus of the Department of English. This Endowment was instituted under his sponsorship. The interest money is to be used to distribute two gold medals named as Justice Dipak Misra Gold Medal. The medals are to be awarded to the toppers, one for the candidate who stands first in B.A (Hons) English Examination and the other for the candidate who stands first in M.A. English Examination every year.

PROF DEBENDRA CHANDRA MISHRA ENDOWMENT

Eminent academician and economist Prof Debendra Chandra Mishra was a native of Banki in Cuttack district. He bagged the gold medal in Economics from Patna University and studied in the prestigious Harvard University in United States where he received his PhD He was a teacher in GM College, Sambalpur and in Ravenshaw College for 25 years. In 1969 he was appointed Principal of this prestigious institution. He also worked in many other prestigious institutions in different capacities.

JUSTICE HARIHAR MAHAPATRA ENDOWMENT

Justice Harihar Mahapatra Endowment was instituted by Major General B.K. Mahapatra in the loving memory of his father. The purpose of the endowment is to award a gold medal and a cash prize to the student securing highest mark in B.A Honours in English examination of the University.

LABANYABATI DEVI ENDOWMENT (Instituted in March-2015)

Donated by Dr Mounabati Mohapatra, Prof Dental Surgery, AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, this Endowment is named as Labanyabati Devi Fellowship. The annual interest accrued is to be given in the form of fellowship to one poor student of Post Graduate in Zoology.

PROF M.S. KANUNGO ENDOWMENT (Instituted in March-2003)

Prof M.S Kanungo Memorial fellowship was instituted under the sponsorship of Mrs Sarat Kumari Kanungo and family in the loving memory of Late Padmashree Prof M.S.Kanungo. The students securing highest marks in the second semester in M.Sc Zoology and M.Sc Botany are to be awarded this fellowship alternatively every year out of the interest accrued.

DR NARAYAN CHANDRA PAL ENDOWMENT (Instituted in Aug-2022)

The bonafide contributor of this endowment is Dr Narayan Chandra Pal who is the former Reader in Chemistry, Ravenshaw University, The interest money will be utilized to award two Gold Medals to the toppers, one for the student who stands 1st in B.Sc (Hons) Chemistry Examination and the other for the student who stands 1st in M.Sc  Chemistry Examination every year. The Gold Medals are to be named ‘Dr Narayan Chandra Pal Gold Medal’.

PROF PRIYATAMA DEO ENDOWMENT

Prof Priyatama Deo was the only Lady Principal and former head of the Dept of Physics of erstwhile Ravenshaw college. She was a well-known personality in Physics. As a great teacher and Scholar she was always involved in enriching the scientific temperament of young and meritorious students by providing any short of help to them. Prof Bharati Behera, Dept of Botany, donated the money in the loving memory of Prof Priyatama Deo who was also her teacher.  The interest money accrued from the fund is proposed to be utilized to conduct annual lecture in the memory of Prof Priyatama Deo.

PARAMANANDA ACHARYA ENDOWMENT (Instituted on 21.11.22)

Padma Shree Paramananda Acharya was awarded the Padma Shree in 1964 after a fascinating and fulfilling journey of discovering several temples and archaeological relics in and around the state of Odisha. He became the first Superintendent  of Archaeology, Musium and Research of the State Govt with an office in the premises of Ravenshaw College in Cuttack. His contributions placed Odisha not just in the archaeological map of India but of the World. This  Endowment was sponsored by Dr Sanjay Acharya, former Professor and Head, AIHCA, Utkal University in the memory of his paternal grandfather. The first-class-first Post Graduate student in History department in Ravenshaw University will be awarded Paramananda Acharya Gold Medal every year out of the interest money of the Endowment.

PROF RAJENDRA KUMAR DAS ENDOWMENT (Instituted in March-2013)

Prof Rajendra Kumar Das was known for his profound scholarship in the domain of contemporary Indian and World History. The fund was created by the donation made by his wife Smt Bishnupriya Das to introduce Prof Rajendra Kumar Das Memorial Award for the most deserving M Phil student doing specialized studies on Contemporary History at Ravenshaw University. The bank interest accrued is to be given to such M.Phil student.

RATNAKAR SARANGI ENDOWMENT (Instituted on 21.11.22)

A person of eminence in the Indian Administrative Service in Odisha, Sri Ratnakar Sarangi was the Gold medalist in Mathematics from the erstwhile Ravenshaw College. As an officer in the Indian Administrative Service, Sri Ratnakar Sarangi made several significant contributions for Odisha. He was a highly acclaimed and outstanding administrator of the state and was known for his integrity and humanity. This Endowment was created under the sponsorship of Dr Sanjay Acharya, former Professor and Head, AIHCA, Utkal University in the memory of his maternal grandfather. The interest money of the donated amount is to be used to award  Ratnakar Sarangi  Gold Medal to the first-class-first Post Graduate student in Mathematics of Ravenshaw University each year.

PADMASHREE DR SADASIV MISRA ENDOWMENT (Instituted in May/2023) Born on 13 th June 1909 in Biranarasinghpur Sasan in the District of Puri, he established himself as one of the eminent personalities of Odisha. Both as an Educationist and an Economist, his reputation has spread beyond the borders of the State. He studied at the famous Satyabadi National School and was greatly influenced by teachers like Pandit Krupasindhu Mishra, Acharya Harihar Dash, Pandit Lingaraj Mishra and others. The ideals of Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das influenced his life immensely. He did his IA and BA (Hons) from Ravenshaw college and got his master’s degree in Economics from Patna College. He joined the Ravenshaw College as a lecturer in 1938. In 1949, his academic achievement was enriched by a Ph.D from the London School of Economics. He continued his teaching career in Ravenshaw College as a professor of Economics from 1950 to 1957 and served as principal of the same college from 1957 to 1962. Going up in official hierarchy, he was the Director of Public Instruction, Odisha from 1962 to 1966. Thereafter he served as the Vice- Chancellor, Utkal University from 1966 to 1971. He adorned many distinguishing positions and authored a number of books. He was awarded Sahitya Academy Award in 1991. He was already distinguished with the award of ‘Padmashree’ in 1971. He had versatile interest in Economics, Education, Literature, Dance Music, Social Service and many other cultural and social activities. Dr Sadasiv Misra above all was a fine speaker-conversationalist with full of wit and humor. He passed away on 16 th December, 1994. This Endowment was instituted at the behest of Dr Prabhat Kumar Misra in the honour of his father Padmashree Dr Sadasiv Misra. The interest amount accrued from this Endowment money is to be utilized to distribute Gold medal (Dr Sadasiv Misra Gold Medal) to the first class-first Post Graduate student of Economics each year during the Annual Convocation.

PROF PRIYATAMA DEO ENDOWMENT

Prof Priyatama Deo was the only Lady Principal and former head of the Dept of Physics of erstwhile Ravenshaw college. She was a well-known personality in Physics. As a great teacher and Scholar she was always involved in enriching the scientific temperament of young and meritorious students by providing any short of help to them.

Prof Bharati Behera, Dept of Botany, donated the money in the loving memory of Prof Priyatama Deo who was also her teacher.  The interest money accrued from the fund is proposed to be utilized to conduct annual lecture in the memory of Prof Priyatama Deo.

PARAMANANDA ACHARYA ENDOWMENT (Instituted on 21.11.22)

Padma Shree Paramananda Acharya was awarded the Padma Shree in 1964 after a fascinating and fulfilling journey of discovering several temples and archaeological relics in and around the state of Odisha. He became the first Superintendent  of Archaeology, Musium and Research of the State Govt with an office in the premises of Ravenshaw College in Cuttack. His contributions placed Odisha not just in the archaeological map of India but of the World.

This  Endowment was sponsored by Dr Sanjay Acharya, former Professor and Head, AIHCA, Utkal University in the memory of his paternal grandfather.

The first-class-first Post Graduate student in History department in Ravenshaw University will be awarded Paramananda Acharya Gold Medal every year out of the interest money of the Endowment.

PROF RAJENDRA KUMAR DAS ENDOWMENT (Instituted in March-2013)

Prof Rajendra Kumar Das was known for his profound scholarship in the domain of contemporary Indian and World History. The fund was created by the donation made by his wife Smt Bishnupriya Das to introduce Prof Rajendra Kumar Das Memorial Award for the most deserving M Phil student doing specialized studies on Contemporary History at Ravenshaw University. The bank interest accrued is to be given to such M.Phil student.

RATNAKAR SARANGI ENDOWMENT (Instituted on 21.11.22)

A person of eminence in the Indian Administrative Service in Odisha, Sri Ratnakar Sarangi was the Gold medalist in Mathematics from the erstwhile Ravenshaw College. As an officer in the Indian Administrative Service, Sri Ratnakar Sarangi made several significant contributions for Odisha. He was a highly acclaimed and outstanding administrator of the state and was known for his integrity and humanity.

This Endowment was created under the sponsorship of Dr Sanjay Acharya, former Professor and Head, AIHCA, Utkal University in the memory of his maternal grandfather.

The interest money of the donated amount is to be used to award  Ratnakar Sarangi  Gold Medal to the first-class-first Post Graduate student in Mathematics of Ravenshaw University each year.
PADMASHREE DR SADASIV MISRA ENDOWMENT (Instituted in May/2023)

Born on 13 th June 1909 in Biranarasinghpur Sasan in the District of Puri, he established
himself as one of the eminent personalities of Odisha. Both as an Educationist and an
Economist, his reputation has spread beyond the borders of the State. He studied at the
famous Satyabadi National School and was greatly influenced by teachers like Pandit
Krupasindhu Mishra, Acharya Harihar Dash, Pandit Lingaraj Mishra and others. The ideals of
Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das influenced his life immensely. He did his IA and BA (Hons) from
Ravenshaw college and got his master’s degree in Economics from Patna College. He joined
the Ravenshaw College as a lecturer in 1938. In 1949, his academic achievement was
enriched by a Ph.D from the London School of Economics. He continued his teaching career
in Ravenshaw College as a professor of Economics from 1950 to 1957 and served as
principal of the same college from 1957 to 1962. Going up in official hierarchy, he was the
Director of Public Instruction, Odisha from 1962 to 1966. Thereafter he served as the Vice-
Chancellor, Utkal University from 1966 to 1971.

He adorned many distinguishing positions and authored a number of books.
He was awarded Sahitya Academy Award in 1991. He was already distinguished with the
award of ‘Padmashree’ in 1971. He had versatile interest in Economics, Education,
Literature, Dance Music, Social Service and many other cultural and social activities. Dr
Sadasiv Misra above all was a fine speaker-conversationalist with full of wit and humor.
He passed away on 16 th December, 1994. This Endowment was instituted at the behest of Dr Prabhat Kumar Misra in the honour of
his father Padmashree Dr Sadasiv Misra.
The interest amount accrued from this Endowment money is to be utilized to distribute
Gold medal (Dr Sadasiv Misra Gold Medal) to the first class-first Post Graduate student of
Economics each year during the Annual Convocation.
