News and Events

The PG Department of English was established in the year, 1922, while the UG course in English had become functional in 1916, making it not only one of the oldest English Departments in the country but also an important player in the rise of English Studies in India. The Professor’s Chair of the Department was offered by the Queen of Sonepur, erstwhile Subarnapur of Odisha. The Department has produced a multitude of talents who have held offices of high rank at state, national and international levels. The Department of English houses a vibrant, diverse and engaged faculty.

Vision

To help students see themselves as professionals, as part of a discipline with skills and abilities valuable in the teaching, research, publishing or post-graduate work and to assure that students encounter creativity crucial to English studies through academic and professional writing which shall groom their creative and critical faculties.

Mission

To offer advanced, career-oriented post graduate and research programmes imparting professional knowledge, employability and life skills, as well as inculcating a vision of community growth and development and strong ethical values.

Maharaj K. C. Bhanj Deo

The department of chemistry was initially named as Mayurbhanj Chemical Laboratory. The red building with Victorian architecture, which houses the department still carries this name engraved on it. The Maharaja of the then princely state of Mayurbhanj, Sri Krushna Chandra Bhanja Deo, has generously contributed for the initial establishment of the laboratory.
