Overview & History

We are fortunate enough to be a part of the era of Information Science. All information is made available at our doorstep as and when we need it. This is possible because of the strides made by Information Science. The Department of Information Science and Telecommunication has a tremendous contribution to make in this regard.

In the early 2000s, when self-financing courses were being gradually introduced into the University curriculum, Prof. Pranakrushna Kar, the then Principal of Ravenshaw College, envisioning the future prospects of a degree in Computer Science blended with Electronics and Telecommunication, approved the commencement of the Department of Information Science and Telecommunication in the academic session 2002-03, with a UG programme in B.Sc. Information Science and Telecommunication. PG teaching in Electronics and Telecommunication was introduced in 2010. The course has been designed keeping in view the requirements of the industry and the corporate sectors.

Adding to its illustrious journey, the Department of Information Science and Telecommunication is proud to announce the renaming of its B.Sc. Information Science and Telecommunication course to the Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) program, starting from the academic year 2024. This new program aims to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge in computer applications, further enhancing their employability and readiness to meet the dynamic demands of the IT industry.
