Overview & History

The year was 1958. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was at the helm of affairs leading India towards its rightful place in the world. China and India were still friends and had not fought with each other yet. During this critical phase of political transformation, the Department of Political Science was started in Ravenshaw College offering undergraduate courses. Prof. Sriram Chandra Dash, the most renowned legendary scholar having encyclopedic knowledge on Indian politics and constitutional system, had played the most vital role in establishing the Department in Ravenshaw. The Post-Graduate Programme was introduced in 1988. When Ravenshaw College became a unitary University in 2006, the Department got a new lease of life and identity.
