The following scholarships are available to the students who study in Ravenshaw University. Students desirous of availing themselves of these scholarships must apply in the prescribed form available in the scholarship section through the Registrar to the concerned authorities.

National Scholarship
National scholarships are awarded to poor and meritorious students for their post-matric studies by the Government of India through the Directorate of Higher Education, Orissa under the following categories.

  • Post-Graduate Boarders @Rs. 300/- P.M
  • Post Graduate Day Scholars @ Rs120/- P.M.
  • Under Graduate Boarders @ Rs. 120/- P.M..
  • Under Graduate Day Scholars @ Rs.90/- P.M.

Students whose parent’s annual income is less than Rs. 6,000/- annually will only be eligible. Selection will be made on the basis of their performance in +2 (C.H.S.E.) and Degree Examinations. 

PG Merit Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded by the Directorate of Higher Education every year on the basis of the results of the Annual Degree Examination @ Rs.60/- per month for a period of 2 years to Post-Graduate students to complete their studies. 

The student must have secured minimum of 50% marks in the last degree examination and must have taken admission in an approved / recognised PG course anywhere in India. The income of his/her parents should have been less than Rs. 24,000/ per annum. The D.H.E. invites applications and conducts the selection.

Senior Merit-Cum-Means Scholarship
This is awarded by the Directorate of Higher Education, Orissa @ 50/- per month on the, basis of the results of +2 Examination for 3 years to students taking their undergraduate studies, They should have secured a minimum of 50% of marks at the +2 (C.H.S.E.) Examination and their parents income should be below Rs. 4,000/- per annum.

Post Matric Scholarship (For S.C./S.T. Students)
This scholarship is awarded by the T.R.W. Department, Govt. of Orissa through the Sub-Collectors of respective Sub-Divisions only to S.C. and S.T. students of degree and post-graduate classes as per the following rates.

Scholarship To Teacher’s Sons/Daughters

This scholarship is awarded by the Directorate of Higher Education, Orissa to sons and daughters of primary and secondary school teachers who are prosecuting their studies in the Undergraduate and Post-Graduate classes after passing their last examination in First Class. The amount of scholarship is Rs. 60/- P.M. both for Undergraduate and Post-Graduate students. The annual income of their parents should be less than Rs.75,000/-

Hindi Merit Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded by the Govt. of India through the Directorate of Higher Education, Orissa to the students who have taken admission in the Degree classes with Hindi as a subject or in Post -Graduate Hindi Class. They should belong to non-Hindi speaking area. The amount of scholarship is Rs. 90/-P.M. and it continues till the end of their studies.

Physically Handicapped Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded by the State Youth Red Cross to Degree and Post-Graduate students who are physically handicapped like deaf, dumb, blind. The extent of disability should be 40% or above. They will relieve scholarship @ Rs. 90/-P.M. for boarders and in case of Day Scholars, the amount is Rs. 60/- per month. The handicapped students should be between the age group of 17 and 30 years and should have secured at least 40% of marks in the previous examination.

Scholarship To The Disables
This scholarship is provided to the orthopaedically / physically handicapped students by the Social Welfare Department of the State Government through the District Social Welfare Officer (D.S.W.O) of each district to the students of Degree and Post-Graduate Classes. The nature of disability should be more than 40 % and such certificate should have been issued by the Chief District Medical Officer. The candidate should have secured 50% marks in the last College/Council/ University Examination. He should not be in receipt of any other scholarship, should have 75% of attendance. He should not be enjoying free boarding and lodging anywhere.

Assistance To The Disabled Students
This is a one time assistance provided by the Secretary, Indian Red Cross society, Orissa Branch through the Youth Red Crass (Y.R.C.) of the College to Degree and Post-Graduate students suffering from chronic diseases Like T.B., Cancer or for injury received on account of accident or serious operation. Moreover, this assistance is given to disabled students for the purchase of hearing-aids, wheel chair, artificial limbs, Tape-Recorders, Braille watches, walking sticks and shoes etc.

Sanskrit Merit Scholarship
This scholarship is provided by the Govt. of India to the students through the Director, Higher education, Orissa who have taken admission in the +3 1st year Degree Classes. The student must have taken Sanskrit as an elective subject and the amount of scholarship per month is Rs.60/-. The entire process of application and selection has to be completed within six weeks of admission.

Sports Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded by the Govt. of India through the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Orissa to Degree and Post-Graduate students who have represented the state at the All India level competitions and should have accomplished a commendable track record. The student should have been regular in attendance. The scholarship is tenable for a maximum period of 3 years and a student who is in employment will not get this facility. The student should not be an inmate of the sports Hostel of the Sports Authority of India. The amount of scholarship is Rs. 450/- per month and the student should not be more than 19 years of age while applying for the scholarship initially.

Scholarship To The Wards Of Mine Workers
This scholarship is awarded by Department of Welfare, Govt. of India to the children of mine’s workers who are prosecuting their studies in the Degree and Post-Graduate Classes. They get a lump sum grant of Rs.1000/- for dress and other allowances.

Scholarship To The Wards Of Bidi Workers
This scholarship is awarded to the children of the Bidi Workers for prosecuting their undergraduate and Post-Graduate studies in a recognised Institution by the Ministry of Labour, Govt. of India. The scholarship will be tenable till the students continue their studies. Both the postgraduate and undergraduate students get a sum of Rs. 1000/- as lump sum grant.

“Samaj” Scholarship
This scholarship has been instituted by the largest circulated Oriya daily newspaper ‘The Samaj’ for the poor and meritorious students studying in undergraduate and postgraduate classes.

  • Post-Graduate Students Rs. 1,500/- (Lumpsum)
  • Undergraduate Students Rs. 1,000/- (Lumpsum)


Jindal Scholarship
The S.J. Jindal Trust, Bangalore of the Jindal group of companies has instituted this scholarship for the Degree and Post-Graduate Students of different colleges @ Rs. 300/ per month for completing their courses of studies.

Prof. Brajabandhu Mishra Memorial Scholarship:
This award has been instituted in 2003 out of a donation of Rs. 80,000/- made by the children of Late Dr. Brajabandhu Mishra former Prof. of Mathematics and former Vice Chancellor of Berhampur and Sambalpur University to perpetuate his memory. Interest earned annually shall be used to award two scholarships in the P. G. Mathematics Department. One scholarship amounting to Rs. 1200/- only per year shall be awarded to the Student of P.G. Mathematics 5th yr class securing the 1st position in the merit list for admission to the course. The other scholarship shall be of Rs. 1800/- per year and shall be awarded to the student of P.G. 6th year Mathematics class securing highest marks in the P.G. Part-I examination and having 75% or more attendance. The tenure of both the scholarships shall be one year only and should be awarded only on merit irrespective of any other scholarship or award received by the student. The scholarship shall lapse if the awardee fails to attain 75% of attendance without any valid ground and if they are reported to be indulging in acts of indiscipline, criminal activity either inside or outside the university.

Other Scholarhip are available In the Ravenshaw College:

  • The Bhingarpur Jagannath Scholarship of Rs.10/- each and tenable for one year, awarded each year to the deserving students of the degree classes.
  • Two Mayo Scholarships of Rs. 8.50/- each per month.
  • One Peck Memorial Scholarship of Rs. 15/- per month in alternate year open to B.Sc. students, Honours or Pass.
  • Two Dhenkanal Scholarships – One of Rs. 7/- and another of Rs.5/- per month. The first is available to the students of the old district of Orissa and the second for students of the ex-state areas but in the absence of suitable candidates from the ex-state areas. This may be awarded to students of any district of Orissa.
  • A Mayurbhanj Scholarship of Rs. 5.50/- per month in alternate year. 


Bank Loans
The Finance Minster in his budget speech 1999-2000 outlined the need for opening up of the loan facilities to the Higher Education Sector. Consequently the R.B.I. issued guidelines to all Nationalized Banks to disburse study loans for: 

  • Studies in India (Maximum Limit upto Rs. 7.5 lakhs)
  • Studies Abroad (Maximum Limit upto 15.00 lakhs)
  • Career Advancement loan scheme.
  • Loans to students in Private Professional / Technical Colleges.
  • Loans to Branches of Post -Graduate Studies.
