Research Areas

The Department of Zoology has a rich tradition of research. Over the period of time it has evolved immensely and is equipped with state of the art facilities including one of the oldest and ever expanding biodiversity repositories, Microbial and Animal Cell culture facilities, walk-in Cold room, Zebra Fish culture and Fresh-water Pearl culture facilities. Our laboratories are modernized with acquisition of latest models of instruments to carter the need of modern biological sciences such as Realtime PCR (Quant studio 5, Thermofishser), ChemiDoc MP (BioRad), Inverted Fluorescence Microscope1981 (Leica), TOC analyzer (Shimadzu), Rodent Steriotaxic
Manipulator, Fluorescence microscope (Olympus), Upright microscope (Nikon) and installations like besides other routinely used scientific equipments.

At present the thrust areas in research are:

  • Molecular Human Reproduction including infertility and contraception
  • Validation of novel drugs and drug delivery systems
  • Computational Biology
  • Redox regulation of animal physiology
  • Plankton-Nutrient dynamics & Ecotoxicology
  • Taxonomy and Ecology of Macrobenthos
  • Enzyme Technology
  • Cancer Biology
  • Neuroendocrinolgy, Neurotoxicology and Novel Therapeutics
  • Neuro- and Behavioral Biology
