Hailing from the city of Bhubaneswar, Odisha, Dr. Nirlipta Swain has been associated with Department of Zoology, Ravenshaw University since 2010. After graduating from Ramadevi Autonomous College, Bhubaneswar in 2008, she completed her post-graduation studies in Zoology at Utkal University, Bhubaneswar in 2010.She started her research career as M. Phil. student where she studied the “Histone retention and DNA fragmentation in spermatozoa of patients with recurrent pregnancy loss: Role of lipid peroxidation protein carbonylation and thyonylation”.With an aim to further enhance her research skills, she explored the potentiality of Transient receptor potential ion channels as an ideal candidate for redox sensing with regard to sperm physiology as a part of her doctoral thesis. During her doctoral work “Oxidative stress in Sperms: Role of TRP channels” she had the opportunity to work in collaboration at reputed institutes namely Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA; National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) Bhubaneswar, Jatni, Odisha; Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar, Odisha; Kar Clinic and Hospital Pvt. Ltd., Bhubaneswar. Her research experiences as Visiting Research Observer at American Center for Reproductive Medicine (ACRM), Ohio, USA in 2016 and DBT-Project Fellow at NISER-Bhubaneswar in 2014 supplemented her exceptionally wide research background. She is awarded with Young Achiever’s in Reproductive Medicine award by YUVA-ISAR, Indian Society of Assisted Reproductionin 2015; CSIR-UGC NET 2011; GATE 2011; R-SU-CA Award for securing highest marks in Zoology (Hons), B.Sc examination 2005 and is a Life member of 1 international (ASPIRE) and 2 national scientific societies (ISSRF, ACE). Her other academic credentials include 9 research publications, 3 book chapters, 3 conference proceedings, 13 Paper presented/ accepted in Seminars/ Conferences, 6 Training programs/ workshops and 10 Certified Online courses. Her teaching experiences as Guest faculty at Department of Zoology, Ravenshaw University in 2014, 2020 and 2021 and as assistant mentor during summer internship course (13th June to 29th July 2016) at Lerner Research Institute, Cleveland Clinic, USA enhanced her mentoring ability as a teacher. With a deep understanding of a wide repertoire of zoological courses and hands-on experience on molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, proteomics, bioinformatics, and reproductive biology, Dr. Swain aims to further boost her teaching and research expertise in future.
