Overview & History

The Department of Education of erstwhile Ravenshaw College was established in the year 1943. It is one of the oldest Departments in India to start Education as a liberal discipline at under-graduate and post-graduate level. However, as a University Department of Education, its inception dates back to 15th November, 2006. The Department at present equitably heroes in on advanced level teaching, research and extension activities. The Department at present runs liberal courses like, B.A. (Education Elective), B.A. (Education Honours), M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Education. From 2016, the Department runs Teacher Education Programmes like Four-Year Integrated B.A.B.Ed and B.Sc.B.Ed which have been recognized by NCTE. Thus, with introduction of Integrated B.Ed Programme serving many of interdisciplinary pedagogy subjects such as Pedagogy of Languages (Odia, English), Pedagogy of Mathematics, Pedagogy of Bio-Sciences, Pedagogy of Physical Sciences and Pedagogy of Social Sciences.
