Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR)

Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, also known as FTIR Analysis or FTIR Spectroscopy, is an analytical technique used to identify organic, polymeric, and, in some cases, inorganic materials. The FTIR analysis method uses infrared light to scan test samples and observe chemical properties. FTIR analysis identifies unique chemical bonds in a molecule and produces distinctive molecular fingerprints that can be used to screen samples for many different components. The department of Chemistry is equipped with a

High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)

High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) is an essential analytical tool and affords separation and quantification of a variety of analytes which are thermally labile and not volatile enough for analysis on gas chromatograph. Our laboratory is equipped with a Waters Analytical cum Semi-prep HPLC, 1525 with Binary HPLC Pump. The different modes and choice of detectors permit analysis of wide range of samples, and we have the following detectors available in our laboratory:

  • UV Detector
  • Refractive index (RI) detector
  • Electrochemical detector (ECD)

Micro-Wave Synthesizer

Our laboratory employs a CEM, Discover system micro-Wave Synthesizer that provides an economical, robust platform for heating sealed pressure vessels with the power of microwave energy. Access temperatures and pressures up to 300 °C and 300 psi for the highest purity synthetic results.

Features: 10-mL sealed pressure vessels ideal for research chemistry and optional 80-mL vessels for scale up. Volume-independent, infrared temperature monitoring accurately measures temperature for reaction volumes from 0.2 to 60 mL with only two vessel sizes. Safety based pressure management technology automatically relieves excess pressure to prevent vial failures. Variable speed magnetic stirring and rapid compressed air cooling

Polarimeter

Polarimeters measure the optical activity of an optically active substances by passing polarized light through a substance and observing the angle of light emitted. Our laboratory employs digital polarimeter AUTOPAUL IV to measure the rotation of plane polarized light. This polarimeters perform readings automatically and give instantaneous results.
